Flatbows: Ancient Flatbow
Flatbows are better for SW/Volley, faster fire rate. And Longbows can't hit **** at range either without RtW... Longbows just suck for everything except shooting a Pin Down or Cripshot at some guy out of your recurve bow range.

Flatbow are the less precise bow in all game and this make more difficult to hit a moving group. Only good for pulling and run away. ihmo
Ye they've have a fast rate but it's useless if you don't hit them.
But the game is beautiful 'cause every player have a different style to play

Bow of Hierophant and Drago Flatbow, depending on build and situation.

In PvE this is of less concern, as many creatures will sit at a particular location, but in PvP, the constant movement and direction changes can result in a high miss rate, especially at a range.
Many players compensate for the bow's long flight time with either the Nature Ritual Favorable Winds or the preparation Read the Wind to increase the speed of arrows by lowering the arc. This decreased flight time works to vastly improve the accuracy.

It really depends on the area you are facing or the situation (pvp or pve) but the main point is flatbows arent more worse then other bows

Favourable winds is applied also to enemy and why waste one slot?
Imho read the wind is better but is a preparation than useless with barrage

most rangers use apply poison in pvp, which cuts out RtW. favourable winds is too unwieldy to use in pvp as well.
recurve is the undisputed king of pvp. every other bow type are secondary and only have niche roles.
oh yeah, my favourite is the skull recurve bow. understated, yet very elegant.

Longbows are inaccurate against moving targets too... sure they may be a little more precise than Flatbows but they are still way too inaccurate to reliably hit a moving target or interrupt anything at all, for that matter. Which means you shouldn't be using one without some sort of arrow speed modifier. However then Flatbows have nearly the same arc as Longbows but faster refire....
You use Flatbows with Read the Wind or Favorable Winds to get an accurate, long distance bow with a fast refire; perfect for dealing damage.

1) You can't use Read the wind with Barrage
2) Favorable Winds affect enemy and take 1 slot
3) Longbow arc size 0.59 Flatbow 0.88 it isn't exactly "nearly"
When play Sp Barrage the 1st hit is the most important because you may have not chance to have the same aggro as before, then if you miss you fail...it's simple. Ok they have fast refire rate but splinter weapon recarge in 5 seconds and between the time you use and recast sp weapon you can use one time barrage alone indep. if you have flat or longbow
And the last thing: high refire rate doesn't mean THAT THE ABILITY RECHARGE FASTER.
The recurve bow are better because the have only -0.19 flight time
The long bow have -0.29 flight time respect flatbow. It's too much for me
Flatbow are perfect for pulling.
ALL THAT IMHO. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THAT YOU WILL ENOJY PLAYING

Sure it depends... in 99% of the situations flatbows are the worst... well maybe hornbows are as bad but atleast they hit.
Recurve for general use and longbow for pulling, I don't need anything else.

a longbow is accurate enough that you can get a jump on a caster from longer range. oftentimes a monk in gvg will attempt to put up aegis just before the first encounter at the flagstand. with a longbow, you can interrupt that first aegis and give your team a sizeable advantage. longbows are also accurate enough to use with cripshot and snare a moving target at maximum range (providing that they don't change their direction too much).
flatbows are excellent for taking out stationary npcs at maximum range. the attack speed boost is absolutely huge, especially if you use a vampiric bowstring. contrary to popular belief, a flatbow CAN hit a moving target at maximum range. however, that moving target cannot change its direction; it must move in a straight line. basically, if your target is running away from you (or even running straight across your screen) in a straight line, you can pull out the flatbow and nail it regardless of range.

It seems to have a bit of trouble hitting a target moving directly towards you i've noticed though.

My personal favorite bows at the moment are Urgoz's Flatbow and a Sundering Undead Shortbow - but I haven't gotten a shortbow I really like the look of yet. (A tormented shortbow might be nice.)
I also carry a Vampiric Azure Shortbow and Urgoz's Longbow, but I very seldom use them. (And I have a large collection of other bows I don't use. )
Oh, and Jin switches between a Tengu Flatbow and Tengu Shortbow and Margrid uses a Vabbian Flatbow or a Droknar's Shortbow.

The only bows I use are flatbows. Drago's Flatbow for most of my builds, and the Ironwing Flatbow for Barrage builds.
For some reason my ranger also carries Urgoz' Shortbow, even though I never use it.

My 4 favorite bows: Silencing Azure Shortbow, Icy Tormented Recurve, Vampiric Bramble Flatbow and Zealous Zodiac Longbow. I do like hornbows for spiking also, but I just use my icy tormented currently for ice/glass. I have a few Mallyx recurves which are nice as well (azure skin but zealous) but when I got the tormented they basically retired.

I believe that "favorite" and "favourite" is one of those American-english versus english-english things, like color and colour.
